Pediatric Chiropractic Care Frequently Asked Questions
What can my family expect from our first visit with Dr. Tara Sutton?
At your complimentary consultation and assessment,
Dr. Tara Sutton will take a detailed case history and ask specific questions about the pregnancy and birth of your child and perhaps even about you and your partner. Dr. Sutton will then perform a chiropractic exam to determine if spinal restrictions exist. On the next visit, she will explain the examination findings and let you know if your child is a candidate for
chiropractic care. After obtaining your consent, Dr. Sutton will care for your child.
Is the chiropractic adjustment safe for my child?
Chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to fit a child’s size, weight and unique spinal condition. They are both gentle and specific to a child’s developing spinal structures. To correct spinal restrictions in a child Dr. Sutton may use some gentle pressure or vibration with her fingertip – the pressure is the same as you can tolerate when you press your eyelid against your eye.
Will Chiropractic hurt my child?
Most parents report that their children enjoy their chiropractic adjustments and look forward to subsequent visits. They also report that their children experience a greater level of health while under regular chiropractic care. To ensure the best possible outcome for your child, be sure you find a chiropractor with specialized training for infants and children.
Why should I have my child checked by a Chiropractor?
Even the most natural of childbirths can be traumatic to a child’s spine and nervous system. Although symptoms such as pain and dysfunction may not show up for years, injury to the vital nervous system may have a lifetime of damaging effects.
When should I have my child checked by a Chiropractor?
As your child grows you expect your little one to meet certain developmental milestones such as crawling, toddling walking and running. These are important times to have your child check by Dr. Sutton. These developmental milestones often alter the way the spinal joints and musculature interact and may create spinal restrictions that delay further or normal development.
Can Chiropractic Cure Colic, Asthma or Ear Infections?
Chiropractors don’t “cure” disease – they simply correct restrictions and reduce tension and interference to the nervous system. When spinal nerve stress interferes with the proper functioning of the nervous system, it can weaken internal organs and organ systems, lower resistance, reduce healing potential and set the stage for sickness and disorders of all kinds.
The chiropractic adjustment frees the nervous system from interference and allows the immune system to function more efficiently, resistance to disease increases, and your child’s body functions more efficiently. Your child can respond to internal and external environmental stresses such as germs, changes in temperature, humidity, toxins, pollen and many other stresses more efficiently.
So although children with diseases are often brought to the chiropractor, Dr. Sutton is not treating their diseases but is instead reducing nervous system interference and allowing their body’s natural healing potential to function at its best.
